Autumn Moon Festival

a Great Site for Teaching About

9/25/2000

Each week, Education World's Great Sites for Teaching About ... page highlights Web sites to help educators work timely themes into their lessons. This week's sites, in no particular order, are among the best on the Web for teaching about autumn.

"Mid-autumn festivals, which are held on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, are popular family holidays in many Asian countries. In many Vietnamese American communities, the festival is also called the Children's Festival. This site gives some history and background of the festival and offers lots of links and book recommendations."

Excerpt from
AsianWeek
(2/25/99 issue)

"Resources for Asian and Multicultural Families:

The Lunar New Year is considered by many to be synonymous with the Chinese New Year, but as FamilyCulture.com proves, this is far from the case. The site, which offers a wealth of information, features overviews of Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and , yes, Chinese New Year traditions. The folktales, foods and festivities surrounding each are outlined for families looking to integrate tradition into their lives or for anyone with an itch to celebrate in style.

As its title promises, this site offers an abundance of resources. Rather than just listing traditional foods, games and crafts associated with each ethnicity, it actually provides recipes and hand-on activities."
